Hi,

We are in hopes of dining in the Latin Quarter Sat. Octobber 10th. I am in hopes of finding some good Italian food at some point but not sure if rhe Latin Quarter would be a good area? Is there a main area of jazz clubs in paris?

Dinner and Jazz after sounds great. Somone suggested

Procope Cafe and the Cavern but I have read many bad reviews about Procope. Historic but poor service and food. Uggggh.

The only thing I have down for the 6th would be Bouillon-Racine

I know others will think I work for the pizza mafia in Paris because I have mentioned before that our favorite pizza street in Paris is in the 6th, called Rue des Canettes, just near St. Germain des Pres. Understand that I recommending it for pizza not necessarily haute Italian cuisine. Our favorite is the Santa Lucia because it isn't such cramped quarters:

All 3 offer great wood oven pizza. Pasta is okay but nothing extraordinary.

You seem to be obsessed with where to eat in Paris. This is your third post on the subject. And now you are asking for an Italian restaurant?!?! Maybe you would ask for that in London but not in Paris, please.

There are only a few thousand places to eat in Paris. As StCirq said on one of your other posts, go shopping. The menus are always posted on the outside, on the window or on a tripod. Look them over. Check the prices. Check the wine lists. Walk inside and walk around to see how it looks and how it smells. See who is eating there. This is part of the fun of going to Paris.

oh posh, we eat Asian, Italian and French, there's no law against it.

I don't know any good pizza places in Paris, do I'd go with those who do. AS for jazz, I think the best areas are on the Right Bank, like the 10th arrondisement. That wouldn't necessarily fit in with your dinner plans, though, so instead of thinking about the best area in Paris for jazz, you might think about where you can go to dinner and some jazz club nearby.

I heard there was great International food in Paris, that is why I asked for some Italian. I can only eat so much duck! I do enjoy it though. I would not want to offend anyone

By the way, my friend just returned from Paris and said she did not really eat any amazing food. They just looked at Menus and gave places a shot. Hmmmm.

Best dinner in Paris was Rue Lanneau th or 6th off Rue des Ecoles Coupe-Chou restaurant-oe for dinner only.

The Latin Quarter, with a few notable exceptions, isn't the place to get ANY sort of fine food. It's the student hangout part of town...read cheap eats, Greek joints with plastic food displays. It's also not the jazz scene mecca, though the Caveau de la Huchette is there.

Pizza Tina is my kids' favorite place for pizza in Paris. The Sicilian family that runs it is hilarious!

If you want something Italian more than pizza, try delPapa on rue de Buci or Il Pescatore on rue des ecoles

Tatses do differ, one of the worst dinners I've ever had in Paris was at Le Coupe chou!

I kinda read some not so great things about Le Coupe Chou but it seems that frenchwow had a not so wonderful dining experience overall.

I am hoping to avoid this with all your great advice!!!

No good food in the Laitn Quarter? Chez Henri-Moulin a Vent, Chez Rene, L'Atlas (Moroccan), Rotisserie du Beaujolais, Tour D'Argent (!), Petit Pontoise, Atelier Matire Albert,etc.....methinks that there are quite a few decent places in the 5th

And someone who says they did not have a good meal in Paris...I'd not base my expectatios on that, at all. It's like going to Florida and saying you didn't find any good beaches.

Read the Fodor's guide, and search online for the Michelin Red Guide to Paris. If you just went to those, you will eat fine. Avoid rue de la Huchette restos (or anywhere else with a guy trying to get you inside)!

Adn, as stated above, just walk, you will see loads of restaurants. Judge by the menu, the clientele, and you will do fine. When I go, I have a list by arrondissements. I do not book restaurants, but play it by ear. If you are really enjoying a neighbourhood, why cut it short because you have a reservation elsewhere.

I may hit a few of my choices on the list, but I also allow for serendipity.

We had a very nice lunch at l'Arbucci, with each of us ordering a variety of dishes, though they are known for their oysters. We were there in February on our arrival day so we didn't make it back for the jazz that night, but it looked like a nice jazz club.

I'll again put in a good word for one of our favorite "Italian" restaurants in Paris. It's Marco Polo at 8 Rue de Conde near the Odeon. Through the years we've probably been there 10+ times, the latest was 2 weeks ago, and it's always great. No pizza though. Just great starters, veal and pasta.
