Santorini restaurants
My husband and I will be in Santorini early September for four days. We’ve had friends who were recently there who said they were very disappointed in the food in Santorni over Mykonos/. Too Americanized./ We’re Looking for some great lunch /dinner places as well as a romantic anniversary dinner for our last night We have a reservation at ambrosia at the moment but again heard it was overpriced and the food was not that great, Very crowded and loud. Looking for any thoughts for Amazing local food.

There is a parallel discussion going on this subject right now.
Restaurants in Santorini
A restaurant like Ambrosia is often mentioned in cruise forums. It is not surprising that many restaurants accessible to cruise passengers tend to be Americanized, loud (usually the case of restaurants where Americans congregate), and overpriced.

I also found better food in Mykonos than Santorini. Restaurants we dined at:
Volkan on the Rocks is in Fireostafani. It is on the walkway from Fira to Oia. Restaurant juts out on a cliff with great views of the ships coming in. We both had the spring salad with grilled chicken and fresh pita bread with hummus and their locally made beer. Food was excellent. This was a lunch for us.
Lauda in Oia. This is a very expensive restaurant that supposedly has a michelin star chef or he trained the chef? Ambiance, excellent. You jut out on a cliff, table is yours pretty much for the night. Service is excellent. The Santorinitini was a delicious drink, 17 euros. Food was tasty, but not much of it. We did not do the course by course one. We just ordered apps and main course. Dessert was brought as a tasting complimentary to us and was tasty. It was an experience, but food was not equal to the price tag in my opinion.
Ammoundi fish tavern in Oia area. Food was pretty good. We had fresh fish, seabass and the fried potatoes were good. Waiters seemed rushed and the person who seats you was rather rude that we didn't have a reservation. It's an outdoor restaurant and people are dressed rather casually. But food was good and not overpriced.
Petrosia restaurant in Oia. We sat upstairs and could watch the sunset. Food was pretty good but I like when we got the whole fish and not a small filet. It seemed to me that when they brought out the fresh fish and filleted it for us, it was really tasty with just olive oil and lemon. The filet square reminds me of what I buy in the supermarket at home that has been frozen and sent to the local stores. Eh.
Have fun in Santorini. The landscape/topography is so unique.
