Santorini, Mykonos, Skiathos - all by ferry?
My family will be in Greece in August 2009 and have three nights scheduled in Santorini. I have seen conflicting reports of how long a ferry takes from Santorini to Mykonos - some say 5 to 6 hours one way, others say 2 to 3 hours. We are trying to find this out as we would like to stay 1 night in Santorini, take a ferry to Mykonos and stay 1 night, and then back to Santorini for the 3rd night. Is this feasible? Also, has anyone taken a ferry from Athens to Skiathos? The is one of the island the film "Mamma Mia" was filmed on and my daughter is a fan - I would like to try to visit for the day if possible. Thank you for anyone who can provide input.

Neither one is really feasible, unless you wish your all-too-short island time to be converted into ferry time. Each time you take a ferry even 3 hours, you lose half a day. Figure it out:
45 mins MIN - buying tickets, packing, checking out
45-mins MIN, getting TO ferry, waiting to board
3 hrs Port-to-port ferry
30 mins MIN, disembarking, taxi to hotel
30 mins, checking in, dumping stuff in room, orienting etc
TOTAL = 5,5 hours
For the Mamma Mia fan, NO. Just show her this map of greece:

Find Santorini... and Skiathos is one of the isles called Northern Sporades. Check distances -- about 300 miles in a straight line if you had a flying carpet! In actual do-able transport, it would take ?20-24 hours? (ferry to Athens 9 hrs? taxi to bus station, 6?hour bus ride, ferry to Island). No.

Thank you for your knowledgeable feedback. If in Athens already, do you think it is feasible to take a ferry from Athens to Skiathos and back? We are flying to/from Santorini from Athens. Your help is much appreciated.

The only way to get from Athens to Skiathos is either by air, or overland to one of the northern ports, Volos or Agios Konstantinos, and a ferry from there. Then, to see where "Mamma Mia" was actually filmed, another (or the same) ferry on to Skopelos.
You have an unrealistic idea of how long it takes to get between islands by ferries, which move about 30 mph, more or less, depending upon type.
