Santorini Day Trips

We will be docked at Santorini for 10 hours during Oct.. We do not want to take the cruise excursion to Fira and Oia but would rather wander in those towns by ourselves. Is it reasonable to take a taxi to Fira and Oia and have time to tour and make it back to the ship in time.

Any other suggestions.

Mark

With 10 hours you can easily see Fira and Oia on your own, but part of that time will be used up getting off and back on the ship, so it's better to estimate 7-8 hours of time ashore.

You don't need a taxi either; there's an efficient and cheap public bus service that runs between Fira and Oia (with stops at points in between). You'll likely dock at the base of the cliff at Fira. As you wander through Fira, ask a local where to catch the public bus and they'll point out where to catch it. Most drivers speak basic English, and a sign on the front window says "Public Bus" in English too. Oia is the prettier town in my opinion. Santorini is a beautiful island!

agreed, I would make a direct route to Oia..its a beautiful town to wander. Taxis are also plentiful and reasonable.

HI

we will also be on a cruise in Oct. and will be stopping at Santorini...I have bad knee problems and can't do a lot of walking..Is it possible to hire a taxi or driver to take us around the island? If so, does anyone have any names to give me?

thanks in advance

Thanks for the info. We now feel comfortable to wander Santorini on our own.

Andy, the best parts of the island are in the villages along the cliffs and cars can't get to these areas, just to the edges. Then you have to walk in to explore them.
