Santa [email protected] or Santa Chiara

First time travel to Rome on way home for 2 nights and have decided on one of the above. Any suggestions? I realize that Santa Chiara has better location but cannot be sure of decent size room. Have also heard good things about Santa Maria from "Karen Brown" and the area.

I'm a fan of the Santa Chiara, but aside from that, if it were me, with only two days in Rome I'd be even more concerned with a central location, and less concerned about the size of a room that I'm not going to be staying in for very long. Even a small room might be tolerable for just two nights.

I vote for the Trastevere location. I am a fan of the neighborhood. Its only a 15 minute walk or so between the two. Trastevere is 30 min to an hour from everything you would want to see and you can pick up the 116 electric bus right across the ponte sixto from trastevere. In trastevere you will get a much more authentic experience and less touristy one. The shopping is great and theree are incredible restaurants.

I'd also prefer to stay in Trastevere. In your case, though, being there for the 1st time and staying only 2 nights, the Sta. Clara involves less "risk" (even though, as pointed out by Dean, this translates to a mere 15 minutes). But do yourself a favour an reserve one evening/night to stroll over the river (the other one you'll probably spend in Piazza di Spagna, Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona), to get the taste of Trastevere and to be in a position to decide for yourself next time up

I see the Santa Maria's rates for a double range from 145 to 207 euros. Any recommendations for a place in Trastevere that's not as expensive? Thank you.

If you only have 2 days, I'd stay closer to the things you want to see. Try the pantheon,Spanish steps or Piazza Navina area. Trastevere is nice, but it is a far walk to the things you'll want to see in that short time. The bus is fine but very crowded in mornings and afternoons, I'd rather be in walking distance
