San Quirico to Assissi

In May we will be staying near San Quirico d'Orcia for a week and have been planning day trips by car. Is it reasonable to plan a one-day trip to Assissi?

Interesting. We're doing that from Rome by train for a day trip. But interestingly although you're already much closer it will take 2 and a half hours for you to drive it according to Mapquest, while it's only two hours by train from Rome!

Guess you have to ask yourself if 5 hours driving for a day trip is worth it or not to you.

Yep - about 1 1/2 hrs to get there. It's spelled Assisi, however.

I'm assuming you're driving from San Quirico d'Orcia to Assisi. Mappy says it's 1 hr 26 mins. I guessed at the 1 1/2 hrs that I posted above, based on driving between the two places a few times (actually, to Perugia & Deruta).

There are many villages named San Quirico in Tuscany. The one just west of Pienza is San Quirico d'Orcia.

Assisi is a wonderful town, definitely worth a better part of a day, but its a long drive. We stayed near Assisi a few weeks ago and daytripped to Montelpuciano, Pienza and San Quirico and it was a really long day. I don't think I would do it again.

OK, very interesting. I wondered why Mapquest told me it would be 2.5 hours. I entered San Quirico and it gave me several options. I chose the only one for Toscano, which ends up being a place north of Firenze. That'll teach me not to enter the "d'Orcia" as well, but I'm not sure why it didn't give me that as an alternate choice amongst the various San Quiricos.
