Any suggestions for good restaurants in San G.would be greatly appreciated. We're mostly interested in good food and atmosphere. Thanks.

I can tell you one NOT to go to--Ristorante La Griglia on Via San Matteo 34/36. It was our least favorite meal during three trips to Italy.

I highly recommend the Dorado, a restaurant my wife and I visited for lunch a few years ago. It's still praised by Michelin as one of the best in the town. Have the Papradella with duck sauce. You won't forget it.

The Dorado always gets good press, but we like the Terraza ristorante at the La Cisterna hotel. Get the risotto con porcini.

HowieR:

You just bashed a restaurant without any tangible reason. Shouldn't you provide some reasons why you're advocating to avoid an , presumably, innocent restaurant halfway around the world?

Ristorante Il Pino on Via San Matteo was extremely good. Also, the food and service and view at the restaurant in the Hotel Bel Soggiorno were incredible - we were staying there and they treated us like royalty!

yawning, I assume you don't understand that when I say "it was our least favorable meal..." that I meant the food was lousy! Got it? Now, please stop with the attacks! (PS: I'm really too old to be called Howie!)
