Salzburg & Munich restaurants

Hi all -
Well, my big trip is around the corner! I have found a TON of info I needed for Italy, but am lacking in the Salzburg & Munich department. Who has restaurant recommendations for these places? And what is the "gelato" in Austria & Germany (what dessert are they known for)???

All this scenery and art to look forward to and all i can think about is the food...

thanks!

Austrian cakes and pastries are going to drive you nuts. I'm sorry that I don't remember their names, but you'll see when you get there and get into one of their many good coffee houses.

Apple strudel and torte are very good Austrian desserts and snacks.

In Salzburg I can recommend Alt Salzburg, Zum Mohren, and Paris Lodron -- the restaurant at the Schloss Monchstein. Paris Lodron is definitely a special night restaurant -- fancy and expensive, but worth it. The view of Salzburg from the restaurant is terrific.

A very nice, not expensive, typical Munich restaurant--Liebighof im Lehel. We ate well for 20 euro for our meals, drinks extra, but reasonably priced. (2 years ago)

Not far from the Bavarian National Museum and Schack Galerie. One of the museum guards recommended it.

In Munich, if you like beer, go to Augustiner Keller. You can have good beer and sausages at a reasonable price. If you like wine instead, go to Pfalzer Weinstube. Wine and sausages....mmmm!
