You should be very, I say VERY, safe in spatn, since no one knows where it is. Be sure to post a trip report, if you ever find it.

If you refer to Spain, I am certain you will be safe regarding latest news, just take normal care of your valuables in Madrid and Barcelona.

Hello Jay! We were in Spain last month, and we had an excellent time. Great food, people, museums, nightlife, beaches, churches, etc. The architecture is spectacular. Everyone loves our photos of Spain. What a lovely country. Just use caution and be alert, as you would in any european country. Have a joyous holiday!

I just returned from Spain before the US attack on Afghanistan. When I was there, there was no problems at all. Did not notice anything exceptional aside from heightened security at airports. Did not run into any problems with pickpockets or other petty crimes either.

Don't worry, be careful and you will have an excellent trip in Spain.

I wouldn't worry about terrorists anymore in Spain than anywhere else, but beware that both Barcelona and Madrid have serious problems with tourists being violently physically mugged - right in the most popular tourist locales in broad daylight. My traveling friend was knocked down because she was carrying a daypack and the attacker tried to wrestle it off here. She didn't resist but still ended up with a wrenched shoulder and bruises - all while a shopkeeper just looked on and did nothing. I know of many other reliable folks who said they have been attacked in these two cities. Be careful and don't carry packs, exposed money belts, purses or jewelry, etc. It's scandalous that this has been happening for several years in these two cities and local authorities seem to be able to do little to deter it.
