Safe in France this summer?

How is everyone feeling about the safety in France this summer with threats, now some political upheaval?

Political upheaval wouldn't scare me off really -- there are almost always disruptions, strikes, protests somewhere in the country. But between the Olympics and such, parts of France and especially Paris would be tough this summer - impossible in some places.

We are planning to leave end of next week but this was a last minute trip and we can edit easily.

I can't imagine being worried about safety. I would be worried about too much security.

End of next week should be OK.
But July, post elections and pre Olympics, will probably be very bumpy.

actually, there are been threats already, as reported in various news publications. This isn't an unfounded question. Even a French govt official talked about them, I think regarding ISIS or Al Queda attacks. Of course cyberthefts have gotten a lot of press, but that wouldn't affect a tourist. They've already arrested at least two, I think, one was going to bomb St Etienne arena and the other a 16 yr old boy who was also threatening to blow up something for Islamic threat reasons, posting on Telegram, what else.. But a lot of this is also propaganda by Russia who wants to disrupt the games and ruin them for France as they are mad they aren't allowed to participate. So some of this is propaganda they are fomenting online about threat attacks they they are making up.
Political upheaval is a different story. If going next week and not staying more than a week, I wouldn't be worried so much nor would I change plans if I had accommodation I was satisfied with. The big date would be the opening ceremony, of course, but that's a long way off.

I personally have no desire or plan to go to Paris during July/August anyway, for lots of reasons, those wouldn't be the primary ones (threats). Aside from all the measures regarding closures/passage, etc, prices of hotels are astronomical.

Are you planning to visit a city slum? I have been in France for the last two and a half weeks and haven’t anything out of the ordinary. It’s perfectly pleasant and everyone is so nice and welcoming.

who said it wasn't safe right now?
How much do you know about current political turmoil?
Were you in France when the yellow vests rioted?
How much do you know about the "city slums" and the people who live there?

I'd be more concerned by weather conditions such as massive rain falls or forest fires.

But nothing on the human/political front

Forest fires and flooding end of June are quite rare in Paris.

I actualy live in a part of Paris that many people consider to be a slum, and everything is fine here.

I think being aware of one’s surroundings is always beneficial, particularly when traveling, but I’m much more concerned with my personal safety in this country, this election cycle, these gun laws…

Glad you had an amazing time.
The Dutch government upped the security risk level for to yellow from green just before the Olympics. Combination of the Olympics and the political situation was the reason given.
It hasn't stopped any Dutch people going afaik.

The big surprise in the election did a lot to ease the situation. Most anticipated a walkover for the far right with troubles then initiated by the far left or even a sequel of riots in suburbs.
As you know, the left came first. And maybe even more important, nobody actually won, left took ages to nominate a possible PM, everybody is at loss to guess the next step. With the Olympics now on, nothing will happen on the political side for a long time.
