Am looking for a safe hotel in Barcelona, as I'll be travelling alone. Ideal price range of $100/night including breakfast, but will go to $125 if needed. Although I would love to stay at the Claris or Arts, I just can't afford it! Have concerns after reading many postings about purse snatchings, etc. particularly in the Ramblas area. Have considered GranVia, but sounds tired & worn -perhaps a newer hotel? Have you stayed somewhere fab in this price range? Thanks!

Try the Hotel Continental La Rambla. It's near the Placa Catalunya and convenient for transportation. The safe end of the Ramblas. Very nice place.<BR><BR>http://www.hotelcontinental.com/<BR><BR>Doug

I thought the area by the Ramblas was not very safe...wrong? Is the Continental in a safe location? Different part of the Ramblas?? Thanks!

As Doug says, it is at the top end of Las Ramblas, just near Placa Catalunya.<BR>The worst area of Las Ramblas, at night is the area past the Opera and going towards the Columbus monument.
