I am in Portugal. We slept in center of Lisbon and when we left the apartment I made 20 steps and the first guy I encountered wanted to sellme hashich. With a cop 12 meters from me.
I had been forewarned by a colleague but didn't want to believe it. Took 30 seconds !
Portugese seem to speak English in all touristic places, but we speak mainly French, most of the waiters speak good French.

Hashich in Portugal: well, the problem is that it is not hashich, but bay leaves crushed (it's a scam). It's only a problem if you really want to buy some. Even so, the policeman could ask the guy what was he selling and even if it is confirmed to be bay, he could not sell it on the street without a license (bay or anything else).
By the way, the major pickpocket in north Portugal, D. Joaquina (Mrs. Joaquina) was finally convicted to 5 months in prison (althoug with a suspended sentence). Before she had only to pay fines for her activity (she was arrested and presented to judge several times). I believe she will be out of activity for the next months. She is a very nice lady, 85 years old, but with a career in pick pocketing.

Don't trust 85 yr old past pickpockets, they will rob you with their cuteness selling worthless trinkets .
Btw- what the deal with Euro drug dealers? 50 years full of trips NONE has offered to sell drugs to me! Oh I get it, they are prejudice, rotten little bigots rolling in cash surrounded by only hot American 19 yr old babes when they claim drugs are for everybody, they obviously discriminate. Betcha if I were a gay transgender handicapped Jewish North African, I could score some drugs

I feel discrimiated against, lol. I've been to Lisbon multiple times and no-one has ever tried to sell me anything on the street. I did foil a pickpocketing atrempt, but I had carelessly worn my daypack on my back in the metro (I was just using it to cross under the street, I'm more careful when I ride it). But that's no worse than any other city.
