Rough Itinerary for Scotland, please more help

Both are super -- but if I had to eliminate one it would be Drum. Craigievar is a special place.
IMO - Inchmahome is much MUCH more of a must than the Wool centre.
BTW - There is a decent chance you could fit Ardkinglas in on day 11.
If it was me -- I'd probably do the Botanic Gardens at the end of day 13. You could do the Castle, Mary Kings close lunch and Holyrood by about 2:30 / 3 PM and then pop over to the gardens.

We wanted to go to the Wool Centre because of watching the dogs and sheep, but maybe we will see something similar at the Game Fair at Scone Palace.
So I'll put Ardkinglas in on day 11, "if time"
And on Day 12 we'll stop at Inchmahome and then head to Edinburgh. When we get there we'll do some shopping and sightseeing (as time allows) and plan for the Botanic Garden on Day 13.
I like this, sounds like a good plan to me, thanks for your input.
Any thoughts on when we leave Skye and head for Onich if we take the road from Mallaig around the Ardnamurchen peninsula, or the main road from Maillaig to Onich? Both have been suggested as very scenic.

You will see sheep all over the country and definitely see sheepdog demos at the Fair. http://www.scottishfair.com/main_ring_events.php
"</i>Both have been suggested as very scenic.</i>"
Both are scenic. Both are <u>very</u> scenic - but the long way around is a bit more so. But the other main difference is whether you want to see Glenfinnan or not.
65 miles/maybe 2.5 hours vs. about 50 miles/1.5 hours. (both plus stops)

Both are lovely drives -- The scenery is more wild the long way around. But the view from above Glenfinnan is really amazing, plus you'd see the viaduct.
One issue if you do decide to go the long way around Ardnamurchen - much of the route -- maybe fully 50% -- is single track. You will have had lots of experience w/ single tracks out on Skye and up north -- so these won't be hard. Just depends on if you want to tackle more of them . . .
Me -- if I HAD to choose -- I'd probably do Glenfinnan just to save a little time. But I've been on both roads so my criteria may be different than yours.

This is a very ambitious itinerary for seeing Scotland. I was born and raised in Scotland and I think you are trying to see too many castles - you will be "castled-out" and by the end of your vacation they will all be a blurr. The scenery is lovely and the gardens can be spectacular. The whole trip makes me visualize a movie in fast forward. Slow down a bit and take more time to enjoy it. The wether is unpredictable. I do hope you enjoy Scotland. Good luck.

Welcoem to Fodors. It is a good idea to check the dates on threads. wrenwood's trip was two years ago. The thread was topped by folks asking how the trip turned out . . .
