Rome/Venice April 21-28 itinerary
My husband and I will be in Rome and Venice April 21-28 (My first trip, his second) and I would love to get some feedback for what I've planned.
Sat - Arrive in Rome at 8:30. A driver will pick us up and take us to the Albergo Del Senato. We'll leave our bags and head out to see the Pantheon and some of the churches near the Panthon.
Lunch at Armando Al Pantheon. After lunch we'll hopfully be able to get into to our room to take a short rest. In the afternoon, see Santa Maria degli Angeli (part of the Baths of Diocletian) and if we're not too tired, Palzzo Massimo (National Museum of Rome). Dinner at Der Pallaro.
Sunday - Morning, 4 hour private tour with Access Italy of Appian Way, Forum, Colloseum, Palatine. Unsure where we'll have lunch - probably get a recommendation from our guide.
Afternoon - aimless wandering, hang out at a cafe, relax
Dinner at Les Etoiles (I know some people feel that it's overpriced, but my feeling is that you are paying more for the view more than the food.) After dinner, take a night time walk around Rome.
Monday - Morning and early afteroon - Vatican
We'll have a 6 hour private tour of the Vatican and St. Peter's.
afternoon and evening - after a nap back at the hotel, we'll head over to the Trastevere neighborhood. See Santa Maria and possibly Santa Cecilia. Dinner at Antico Arco.
Tuesday - Morning and early afternoon Tivoli trip, again with Access Italy. Afternoon, short nap at hotel (I'm a big believer in naps. There's nothing sadder than people on vacation looking like they're on a forced march.) and then some aimless wandering.
Dinner at La Pergola (most likely one the only times in my life I'll eat at a Michelin three star restaurant.)
Wednesday - Borghese Gallery 9-11. Say goodbye to Rome and take 2:10 train to Venice.
Arrive in Venice at 6:38. Take water taxi to Locando Orseolo and have dinner, not sure where. Have a drink at a cafe in St. Mark's Square and listen to the orchestras.
Thursday - See Accademia,La Salute Church, Frari Church and Jewish Ghetto. Spend some time getting lost in Venice. Sunset Cruise of canals with Venice Guide and Boat Company.
Dinner at Vini da Gigio.
Friday - Doge's Place Secret Itineraries Tour and St. Mark's Basilica. Take vaporetto to San Giorgio Maggiore.
Dinner at Cip's Club. Gondola ride after dinner.
Saturday - One last early morning walk and head to the airport for our 11:30 am flight home to Boston.
Any suggestions? Comments? I realize I left out some obvious sights, like the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, etc. but I plan on seeing them during our "aimless wandering" time.
