If it's only a couple hours you might not want to push it - I just got back from Rome, and the lines waiting for check-in are sooo long for international flights, and with lots of overbooked flights, you don't want to take any chances off getting bumped off. Also, your train could be late..

Don't want to be a downer though, soo...the Colosseum & Forum area is not far. Otherwise, the general vicinity of Termini is not too thrilling.

lily

Remember trains to the airport run only every half hour and take nearly a half hour to get there. Given waiting time and the chance of a delay inbound ... you're cutting it close if you just go directly to the airport. You should check with your airline as to how far in advance they recommend check-in, but many suggest two hours at Fiumicino.

twenj

Directly outside the main doors of Termini are tour buses that will take you on a one-hour ride around Rome, pointing out the main sites. You could stash your luggage at the station and take one of these tours and still have time to get to the airport. We took one last summer and it was a good overview of the city.
