Rome: Tour of Roman Necropolis "Via Triumphalis"
This is exciting! About a week ago, I submitted a request for a tour of this new archaeological site. We'll be there in March '07, and tours are on Fridays and Saturdays only (and only in Italian - no biggie).
I just received a message that, although their timetable is not yet set for next year, my tour is granted and I will receive the confirmation very soon! Oh boy!
Whoever posted the original info about this place, thank you! We have done the scavi tour (and have it scheduled again), but this one is new to us.

If memory serves, the website indicated tours are only in Italian (of course, the memory isn't so good these days either, lol!). Perhaps things will change as this becomes more popular.
Re Scavi tour - highly recommended!

The Scavi Tour and Via Triumphalis tour are two separate tours. I would request tickets to both now for May. My request for December Scavi tour tickets was made 6-7 months in advance, however, the request for Triumphalis tickets just three weeks in advance. Given the short notice request, I am suprised we were able to get tickets to the latter.

Guys:
This may be a little late, but I know that they offer an english tour as I just reserved one. The guy I e-mailed for the reservation indicated that the 10:30 a.m. tour is an english tour.
You can book the tours by e-mailing them directly. Go to the Vatican Museum "events" section for the e-mail. They were very responsive, accomodating and pleasant.
Cheers.

I was unable to view the pictures but DH and I just returned from Rome and took this tour on the 16th of December. We could not believe our eyes, the findings unearthed below seemingly ordinary buildings was incredible. Excellent, informative tour. Once we get settled and I have time I will post pictures...I should unpack or go through the mail but this board is so addicting!

The Necropolis Tour is really amazing! I had the chance to be there last week and everything was perfect! Everyone was very kind, especially the guide who told us everything about the necropolis spread along via Triumphalis. I learnt so much about funerary practices and architecture. Anyway, I know that the 10.30 tour is always in English. So no panic, and have a nice visit as I had!

I requested a reservation on 12/18 for a Via Triumphalis Tour during May 2007 at this e-mail address:
Ufficio Visite Speciali email: [email protected]
Does anyone know whether this is the correct e-mail and how long does it take to hear back about getting a reservation?

I heard back pretty quickly for this one, within a weeks time. The email address I gave you came from the Vatican website, below. Scroll down the page a bit and you should find it there. Hope this helps you!
