Hello RNSuzanne

I hope you love this tour as much as we did! We took lots of photos, did not feel rushed at all by the tour guide.

At your appointed time, just head to the front of the Vatican museum line. There is a security guard who has a list with your name on it and time of tour. You then go right in, get your tickets at the designated window, wait for the tour guide, and off you go!

In addition to the ruins, there are display cases which contain lovely artifacts: papyrus, coins, and these beautiful green vases - amazing to think how old they are and still in one piece!

Happy travels!

Just noticed this. So, the entrance is not the same as the "Scavi" tour?

Good morning jabez

No, the Via Triumphalis tour is a different tour altogether.

The Scavi tour goes underneath St. Peter's Basilica, with emphasis on the burial site of Peter. Entrance is to the left of the Basilica, just past the Swiss guards.

The Necropolis tour is underneath a parking lot! Lots of interesting artifacts, as well as a couple skeletons, beautiful tiled floors, and of course all the ruins. You actually go to 2 different excavated areas on this tour.

Happy travels!

I've taken the Scavi tour (actually, both are "cavi" tours)in one of my visits to Rome a couple years ago, but I assumed that I'd enter at the same place for the newer tour .
My question relates to the entrance.

Entrance for the Via Triumphalis tour is through the Vatican Museum entrance. We had to check in; our names were on a list. There was no waiting in line. It is a very interesting tour.
