I can second Daniella Hunt as a guide. We used her for Villa d'Este and Hadrian's villa and had a great time. She is very knowledgable and engaging.

Our Context tour guide to the Vatican was a museum docent who made the museum and St Peters come alive. Highly recommend

kja - so do I! I have to say that I'm not very good at reading while I'm touring [i have to read a bit, look, read a bit more, etc] so audio-guides or better still live ones are much better for me.

I know that Walter here used to post wonderful descriptions of the Forum but sadly I never got my act in gear enough to print them off in time for any of my visits to Rome.
