Rome to Positano

Hello! I am visiting Europe for the first time and Italy was my choice! I am going for a week and am looking for information on modes of transportaion. Here's my itinerary:

April 8: arrive in Rome at 11:30am - visit the Vatican - travel to Positano somehow in the afternoon
April 9: stay in Positano
April 10: stay in Positano
April 11: stay in Positano
April 12: get to Capri somehow - stay the night in Capri
April 13: head from Capri to Rome - stay the night in Rome
April 14: 1pm flight out of Rome

So basically what I am looking for is information on the trains and buses I need to get from Rome to Positano that Saturday I arrive in Italy. I am also looking for any information on sites to see and places to visit and restaurants to eat at that are not in the guide books. I have been reading the Lonely Planet guide. I am SO excited for my trip. I am travelling with my girlfriend and like I said this is my first time to Europe. Thanks for your help everyone!

This is perhaps the most frequently asked transportation question for Italy:

If you arrive on the 8th...don't you depart on the 7th(yes) and isn't today the 5th(yes). Just out of curiosity, when did you plan your trip and wouldn't the modes of transportation dictate where you made your hotel arrangements?

i've done a little bit of digging and it seems a train from rome to salerno (http://www.trenitalia.com) and a bus from salerno (http://www.sita-on-line.it/) will take care of it... because we want to spend a little time in rome the day we arrive we will not make the ferry from napoli to positano in time... since the bus pretty much runs all day and night it'll be our best bet... now i'm simply trying to figure out a proper schedule for that saturday's trains and buses...

I have the same question as you! I'm wondering about ROME TO POSITANO. I like what I read about Rome-Salerno-Positano. (taking the train and boat)
