That's what I figured but I just had to ask. Thank you again Peter. I'm guessing the time would most likely be almost the same with traffic. It just seems like a lot of transferring and traveling but in the end all worth it. I'm still hoping for a return flight from Naples using points, fingers crossed.

There are other ways...
First, Alilauro are again offering a hydrofoil-and-coach service from and back to central Rome (very near to Termini), between 17 June and 11 September, but only one each way each day - leaving Naples around 17:30... is that any good?
This year's description is in Italian only at present, but some years they've eventually produced an English version..

...........................
Second, in conjunction with Trenitalia, in recent years they've also offered the hydrofoil+train combination that I've described in reply #1 here....
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic....html#26495348
Usually details are announced when Trenitalia's summer schedules come out - early to mid-June - and it similarly runs in high-season only, however there are more choices through the day...
Depends on quite when it is in June that you'll be travelling - but I hope I haven't wasted my time?

Thank you again and again Peter, you are so helpful and no you haven't wasted your time. We will be traveling from Ischia to Rome on June 18th. It's good to know we have options. The bus sounds easy but since it's only once per day and seems like it takes longer than the train, we may opt for the train. I look forward to their summer schedule, hopefully in English. Your link is very helpful. I'm sure you have helped lots of people, including me. Thank you!

debp - if interested, the Alilauro line have now posted their new timetables for the Bay of Naples...
One's valid until 14 June, the other from the next day until 14 September - and both are available by using the appropriate "Orari del Golfo di Napoli....." links, here:

Well, I hope gipsy got to Ischia a few years ago when they originally posted! debp, you have found some expert advice here from Peter/a brit and others, so since I only have visted lovely Ischia once I won't chime in on transportation except to say that it was all a lot easier than I had expected.
However, the advice to not time things too tightly is always good; our train from Rome to Naples was hours and hours late (supposedly due to some unexploded munitions from WW II showing up near the track??) and we had quite a funny time with our fractured Italian calling our hotel in Ischia (they were meeting us at the port)from the train to figure out our new schedule. We did make the last ferry, I believe, out of Naples. What a lovely sunset view!
Our favorite hot springs were the ones in the Bay of Sorgeto, near Panza (I think Forio is the biggest town nearby). You do have to walk down about 200 steps to the sea, but once there you immerse yourself in the shallow bay and wallow - the only word for it - near one of the natural 'jets' of hot thermal water coming out of the sea-floor. Very mythic!
I was there about five yrs ago, so things may have changed, but there was a restaurant at the bottom of the steps and some lounge chairs available for rent; we just spread our towels on the rocks and purchased glasses of prosecco from the bar (served rock-side by a waiter). We could then use the restrooms/small changing rooms.
Ischia was charming.

Thank you again Peter for all your help. I will be sure to check out the new times tables.
Thank you Annabelle, it's good to hear that the trip is not as difficult as it seems. I'm really looking forward to our trip to Ischia!
