Rome to Florence: Train or chauffeured car?

My husband and I want to travel from Rome to Florence mid-May and are debating the pros and cons of travel via train (Eurostar as recommended by others on this site) or hiring a private driver to pick us up at our hotel in Rome and deliver us to our hotel in Florence. Has anyone done this? What did it cost, and would you recommend it? Who should I contact for arrangements? I have all the train info I need (thanks again to Rex and others!), but might find the private car more adventursome. What do you all think?

Beverly

If it's adventure you're after, then the train is the way to go. By private car, it's just you, your hubby and the driver zipping up the autostrada. Even with the 'pedal to the metal' driving style, I think travel time would be the same or less on Eurostar (only 1 hr, 30 min).

If money is not an issue, hire the limo. Otherwise, unless you want to stop several places along the itinerary, I cannot think of a single good reason to spend the extra money! Eurostar trains leave every hour, and take only 95 minutes, LESS than the time it would take on the autostrada.
