Rome to Florence after tour?
I'm doing a tour that only spends one day in Florence. The tour starts in Rome and ends in Rome. I'll be staying at least 2 days longer in Rome and wonder if it would be wise to add an additional 2 days and take the train to Florence for at least 1 to 1 1/2 extra Florence days as well. As this is my first trip to Italy, it is a sampler, but I am wondering whether to do the train back up to Florence or spend even more time in Rome. Thoughts?

What month? Although I am a tireless advocate of planning and reservations, I think this is geuinely a question for "play it by ear" as the best answer. Only you can tell whether you are more attracted to the richness of Florence or the hustle and bustle of Rome (as if these are the only two applicable descriptors).
Hardo to foresee how either decision would be wrong, for any given individual.
Best wishes,
Rex

Hi must,
With only 1.5 days in Rome and 1 in Florence, you will want more of each.
I think that only you can decide.
I, lazy traveler that I am, would stay in Rome and do Florence and Venice on my next visit.

While Florence is only an hour an a half by train from Rome, I would stay in Rome and see more. Ira is right. Save Florence for your next trip as there is a lot to see and do in Rome and you will save the travel time you incur were you to go back to Florence.
