ROME TO AMALFI COAST

I know it's a long distance for a day trip, but it's our only choice.
Any suggestions for a tour company that would drive and help us with visiting Positano for sure, possibly Pompeii and the area?
Or would it be better for us to take a train to Naples and do a tour from there and then train back that night?
I don't want to spend most of the day on trains and buses either. Please help.
Thanks.

Try this company to price out a tour based out of Rome: http://www.romeinlimo.com/italy.htm

If you find it to be too expensive, then hop on an early train from Rome to Naples and base your tour out of Naples.

Here is another link for a tour service from either Naples or Rome to anywhere on the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii: www.lglimoservice.com

Thanks - I'll look into both of these.

I was wondering if you used LG Limoservice. I checked out that website and got a prompt response with a reasonable quote for the day.

I have corresponded with Luigi at LG Limoservice many times and he has always been very prompt and professional. If he gave you a nice quote, I would go with him.

Hi A,

Take the train to Salerno.

The ferry docks are abt 3 blks from the train station.

Take the ferry to Amalfi - visit Amalfi and Ravello.

For Ferry schedules Positano – Amalfi - Salerno (P.zza della Concordia):
See http://tinyurl.com/3cbhkb

Take the SITA bus to Positano - walk down to the ocean. Take the Orange Bus back up.

Take the SITA bus to Sorrento - visit Sorrento.

Take the Circumvesuvian train to Naples Garibaldi Station.

Naples Centrale is upstairs.

Take the train to Rome.

Enjoy your day.

Hi Amy - Alternatively if you want to include Pompeii you'd have to be selective - and just choose one (maximum 2) stops on the Amalfi Coast. The obvious choice is Positano ...

It's a long day - but doable IF you can make an early start from Rome.

e.g. The 06.45 ES from Rome is scheduled to arrive Salerno at 09.16.

This would allow you to catch the 09.40 ferry to Positano (- arr. 10.50).

You could spend a couple of hours in Positano - then head to Pompeii early afternoon (- aim to be there before 3p.m).

After visiting Pompeii you can return to Rome by train via Naples.

[Alternatively you could catch the early evening Pompeii-Rome bus (- operator: Marozzi) - depending on day of travel.

For trains timetables see:

Hope this helps ...

Steve
