Rome Metro Stop

We have a 9:15 scavi reservation, took me 4 years to get one always missed out on our prior trips, I am so excited even though we don't go until Dec this year ,anyway we will have to use the metro to get to St Peters I see there are two stops one for San Pietro Ottaviano and one for Cipro Musei Vaticani does anyone know which stop would be better to get off at for the scavi tour is one stop closer than the other?? Thanks

San Pietro Ottaviano, is the shortest.

Even if it isn't it would still be the best as it is a straight-shot from the metro stop and you can see St. Peter's Colonnade in the distance. And with the signs and the visuale on the colonnade it's impossible to get lost.

Plus between the Cipro stop and the Vatican there is a high outdoor staircase to climb...odd how we only notice/remember these things when we get older .
Regards, Walter

Walter, it's funny that you should say that. I just noted in my trip report from my trip to Rome in Feb that I used your excellent directions to go to Ostia Antica. But you didn't mention the 44 steps on either side of the pedestrian bridge there!

SusanP, that section is part of the 1st original directions written 10yrs ago...stairs weren't as high back then . Also did St. Peter's Dome that year .

But by 2006 my directions even mention the 2 elevators vs the stairs in the pedestrian tunnel beneath the Ostia Antica train tracks .

With me it's all the walking in & around Rome that effects my knees esp on stairs.
Regards, Walter

Walter, I know just what you mean! That arthritis in the knees...

I did find the elevator in the train station, though.
