Rome in February
I have just seen that US Air has a special to Rome for about 300 round-trip. One must complete trip by February 19, I believe. If anyone has been in Rome the latter part of Jan. or February, would you please comment if this time of year is a good time to visit,i.e. climate, exhibitions and museums, number of tourists, etc. Thanks in advance.

Pat, I saw those E-Savers too and would love to be able to take advantage of the fare from SF to Rome. I'd go to Rome any time of the year if I had the chance. I was there in late October of 2001 and the weather was quite warm. You may have cold and some rain, but I'd go for it in a second! Better grab that fare while you can. Report in when you return.

Hi Pat,
Just returned from 4 days in Rome last week -
even if it does rain the entire trip it is still worth it! The museums, architecture and FOOD will not be affected.
You should not be over run with tourists, and I bet you can get some hotel deals.
Enjoy!

I just responded to another post from someone going in January. I went in February last year - via US Airways.

The trip was wonderful. We wore winter coats but left them unzipped. It only rained on one day. Most of the attractions are the outdoors types, so expect to walk. The underground train was one block from our hotel. The train is easily labeled and will take you pretty much anyplace you want to see.

We did a one day trip to Pompeii - absolutely fabulous. The people were wonderful and friendly. I did not care for the food, but everyone has different tastes.

Since I have never been to Rome before I can't comment on the number of tourists, however we did not wait in lines for anything (expect the Vatican and the wait was short). All the attractions were open.

Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. I would recommend February in Rome.

For that price, you would be crazy not to go. My husband and I were in Rome in October. While the weather was fabulous, we found it full of tourists like ourselves. Our Scala Reale tour guides recommended January as the best month to visit Rome because there are so few tourists. Rome is wonderful no matter what the weather.
