Rome Hotels

Hello,
I've seen richardab's extensive posts on Rome hotels, but am looking for additional input. Any ideas in the Trastavere area? What about the Margutta on Via Laurina or Sole on Via del Biscione? It's our honeymoon; we're looking for small and sweet rather than large and well-oiled.

We stated at Albergo Sole on via del Biscione last summer. It is small and basic, not what I'd call sweet. We discovered, will return to, and highly recommend Hotel della Regioni, just off Via del Tritone 94 on Via Zucchelli. Small, quiet, air conditioned, good location. Telephone 06.483675 or 06.4745858, fax 06.4883300, postal code 00187 Roma. Tell them the family with the red-headed boy sent you. Buon viaggio!

Anyone else know Hotel della Regioni? How about other recommendations for hotels near Spanish Steps or Campo de' Fiori?

Tessa,
If you are looking for small and sweet near Campo de Fiori, see if you can still get a room at Teatro di Pompeo. You don't say when you are going and they tend to fill up rather quickly, as they only have 11 or 12 rooms. We stayed there 1 1/2 years ago and they were very helpful and the rooms were immaculate. Very centrally located for all the walking we did, as well.

I wouldn't describe the Margutta as sweet, either, but its certainly not a huge machine. We stayed there on our honeymoon and found it quite convenient. We had a large, airy room on a top floor. Staff were friendly. There's lots of info on this hotel on this forum. Good luck!

Tessa,

We are spending our honeymoon in Rome to this Ocotber. We are staying at a B&B called Casa Howard. It is very close to the Spanish Steps, and Fountain Trevi. It is almost right in between. Have you looked at the site
http://www.venere.it/roma/
?? This site is great for looking for hotels and B&B's, even apartments. Have a wonderful Honeymoon! Rome is a great place to spend it!

Hi! it's me!

Why do you want to stay in the Trastavere? Its a nice area but I don't thingk there are many hotels. This is mostly a residential area. Why not stay central?

I agree with richardab. Why Trastavere? It's too out of the way. The Campo di Fiore area may be what you are looking for. It is not in the middle of a lot of tourist foot traffic, but very well located. We stayed at the Casa Santa Brigida which is on the Piazza Farnese, near Campo di Fiore. The Casa is run by the Sisters of St. Brigid. The rooms are spotlessly clean. Certain rooms overlook the Piazza Farnese and the Palazzo Farnese, which is now the French embassy. (The Palazzo Farnese was the setting of act II of Puccini's Tosca). The price is about 125,000 lire per person, which includes breakfast.

We were thinking about Trastavere because friends of ours who lived in Italy for a while said it was a cool neighborhood, and I've read it's a good area for good eating. Having said that, I think we've changed our minds and now have reservations at the Campo de Fiori.
Thanks!
