Rome hotel for single woman in mid-July, please.
I will be staying on alone after a program in Umbria and am interested in a reasonably priced hotel or B&B in Rome for mid July for 4 to 5 nights. I have been to Rome several times. Most recently stayed at the Majestic. Am considering Pantheon area. Would greatly appreciate assistance.

I've stayed in Trastevere in the women's hostel called Orsa Maggiore and liked it. I had a private double bedded room with a shared bath just across the hall. Good facilities and very reasonable rates in an interesting neighborhood. I recommend it.

Bookchick stays at the Hotel San Carlo.
I stayed at Hotel Julia, which I found very well-located. I can't vouch for the air-conditioning, as I was there in winter. I had a "single economic room", which was quite cheap indeed, in a 3* hotel. and I was perfectly fine there. Keep an eye on TravelZoo, as when July comes closer, there will likely be specials for Rome hotels.

"My" hotel, where I have stayed more times than I can count, certainly fits your bill in terms of decent price, and safe place for single women. It's not far from the Spanish Steps, though, as opposed to the area the OP proposes. (However, it's not super far-away, and the whole area is very walkable.) It's the Hotel San Carlo.

Tell them Signora Kathleen Kelly sent you. (Seriously, they are VERY good with the people I specifically send to them, and no, I don't get a kick-back. I actually haven't been there in a couple of years, but when I'm able to get back there, I won't hesitate to go.)
Buon Viaggio,

Hi Pat!
How lovely to hear from you and Victoria. The last time I was at the San Carlo was while I was being treated for cancer, and the staff there knew this. All is indeed well with me health-wise now, as a couple of months ago my oncologist told me I have achieved complete remission and the chances of a recurrence of this cancer were, according to him "so statistically low that I cannot even mathematically express them to you".
So, my dear, Pat, the best way to thank me is to have a lovely and wonderful time while you are in Rome. It's my favorite city.

Just returned from Roma. Thank you Bookchic for the wonderful referral to Hotel San Carlo! My 4th floor room had a small terrace, which I took full advantage of in the evenings. Staff was wonderful. Location at the foot of the Spanish steps superb. Staff asked how you were and gave their regards. I walked over 50 miles in 5 days. Will return to this hotel should I be fortunate enough to find myself in Roma in the future.
