rome for 4 nights

I am wondering if you could help me with this. We are taking a train in the a.m. from Florence to Rome's Termini station. Our apartment that we rented is near the Trevi Fountain. Can we easily walk from train station to the Trevi Fountain?

Another question we need to know....since our days are limited and we have a 1/2 day set up for the Vatican/Sistiine Chapel and another half day for the Coloseum/Forum...we want to make the most of our time.

Knowing that we are staying by the Trevi Fountaiin...is it possible to dump our luggage and get to the Pantheon so that we won't miss that sight? My hubby thinks we should spend our first day by the Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps and Campo Di Fiore. I just don't want to miss the Pantheon and it is open somewhat later than most.

Is it possible to do the Pantheon and what my husband mentioned?

Our agenda is:
1st day...hope to arrive by 2pm and dump bags. Need suggests on what to since we are at Trevi Fountain.

Day 2: colusseum/Forum

Day 3:

Day 4: Vatican area

Kids want to see the mouth of truth, trevi fountain, spanish steps. I want to see the Pantheon for sure and everything I possibly can.

After this leg of our trip we have 5 days of relaxation with family in Sicily so all of us are up for major sight seeing....any thoughts?

You could walk but it is a least half, three quarters of a mile and over a hill hauling luggage on a hot day. A taxi would be cheaper for four than a bus. Use a taxi from the que in front of the station, don't use someone who comes up to you and asks if you want a taxi, determine the price before getting in or make sure the meter is used.

The fountain, steps, Pantheon are all ten minute visits maybe 15 at the Pantheon. You didn't indicate dates of your visit. If it is summer you will lucky to see either the foundation or steps. These areas are always packed with tourists.

You can easily do what you suggest since everything is walkable.

Pantheon is no problem. Five minute walk west from Trevi. Pantheon is amazing but takes very little time to see. Four nights is plenty to see the major sights. I highly recommend Villa Borghese if you have a extra couple hours - great Bernini sculptures. Looks like you've got Colliseum/Forum and Vatican covered. Don't forget to eat plenty of gelato.

The Rome local metro is the easiest metro system in the world!; two (2) lines that form an "X"; they cross at Termini. Line A is color-coded red. Line B is color coded Blue. To go to The Vatican and Trevi Fountain get "Red" on the direction Battistini. To go to the Forum and Colosseo get "Blue" in the direction Laurentina. There, that is your basic 90% all you need to know about Rome Metro.

Get a Roma Pass; once in Termini head out to Plataforma 25 (second floor) to the Office of Tourism. Get Roma Passes; unlimited bus and metro use; first 3 of 25 listed museums are free.

Depending on where your apartment is, you could catch the subway to the Trevi area (Barberini stop - just 2 stops from Termini, but it's very crowded) or a bus. There are also the little electric buses that run through the center.

You won't spend much time at the fountain as it's just too crowded usually. The Pantheon is not a very far walk from there and could easily be visited before closing (an hour before dusk?). You may as well visit Piazza Navona on this trek also.

The Mouth of Truth is sort of behind the Colosseum/Forum area so plan that while there.

If you are taking the subway to and from the Vatican from the Trevi area, plan a stop at the Spanish Steps on the way (one stop from Barberini).

<i>"...we want to make the most of our time."</i>

Then just take a taxi for goodness sake (roughly 10E). It's a vacation and you'll have luggage. Don't punish yourself.
