Rome: Emperor Maxentius' Imperial Insignia Excavated On Palatine & Darius Ayra's Comments
A *Major* discovery and it's to be displayed in Febuary.

A typo in the news release; The Battle at the Milvian Bridge was in 312AD not 321AD.
Also I love 'What-ifs' .
If Maxentius had beaten Constantine history would have taken a *completely different course*.
IMO Christianity would have still eventually become the dominant Roman religion but on a different timeline, with different players, very different rules and entirely different historical sites (St. Peter's, Vatican, Jerusalem, etc).
So discovering (and seeing) his personal insignias is pretty cool, even though the loser he was still a major character in shaping our history. Regards, Walter

http://www.ansa.it/site/notizie/awnp..._12442678.html This link will go dead in a week or so.
Ansa.it is an Italian online newspaper and they reported starting today the 'Scepte of Maxentius' (I assume the other objects also; lances, Standard bases) will be on display in the National Roman Museum (Museo Nazionale Romano at the Baths of Diocletian). Regards, Walter
