Rome/Amalfi Coast
My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy in May for our 1 year anniversary. I have been before (Rome, Venice, Florence) but he has never been. I am trying to decide what the best itinerary would be for both of us. I definitely want to go to Rome again and would love to do Venice and the Amalfi Coast - but I think distance among those places would prove to be difficult. Does anyone have any suggestions that would offer my husband a good taste of Italy and me something I haven't seen yet? We are planning to be there 10 days. Thank you!

Venice is a long way from the Amalfi Coast. How about flying into Venice - stay a couple days and then head toward Rome and Amalfi? You could fly out of Rome. I think Rome is always worth at least 4 days. We are planning on 5 days in Sorrento in April - that will be our base for day trips to Paestum, Capri, Naples, and Herculaneum/Vesuvius. (We have seen Pompei 2X already.)

How much time do you think is adaquate for the Amalfi Coast? Also, last time I was in Europe I was traveling as a student and had no itinerary. Is it busy in May? Should we have train tickets and hotel rooms already reserved for all places?

Hi L,
With only 10 days, either Rome and the AC, or Venice and the AC, or Venice and Rome.
My choices would be
1. Venice and Florence
2. Fly into Venice, see the AC and fly out of Naples
3. Fly into Venice and out of Rome
4. Fly into Naples, see the AC and fly out of Rome.
