Rome - airport to Smeraldo hotel - best method

We have reservations at the Smeraldo hotel which is near Campo di Fiori. What is the best way to get from Rome airport to hotel? Anyone know how much a taxi would cost?

I recommend Rome Shuttle Limousines; they charge 35 Euro and will meet you in the arrival hall of the airport and drive you to your hotel.

Here; I thought their service was great! We used them twice a few weeks ago:

Did you tip them over the fixed price?

We gave the driver a couple of euros as a tip but I don't believe he expected it, or that it was necessary. I am never sure about the etiquette for these kinds of set fees.

I am assuming the 35 Euros is for both people not a per person charge. It sounds much better than the 55 euros I've seen listed by hotels. Thanks.

Correct. It is for two people. It is MUCH less expensive than our hotel's service and less expensive than many other limo companies.

How about getting from Smeraldo to train station - what's the best method for that?

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and caught a hotel shuttle from Rome airport. When you exit immigration and enter the main hall, there are (or were) 2 areas with big signs saying Hotel Shuttle. You don't need to book your hotel with them to use the service. It cost us about 10 euro each (one way) and it was door to door. I had the hotel name and address written down so I could show it when we paid, as my Italian is pretty basic. The van was a small shuttle type and as the hotel is in a narrow warren of alleyways (I thought wonderfully picturesque) it was hard to find. I had printed the map off the hotel website and showed it to the van driver and he found it minutes later.
Hope this helps.
Kay
P.S. Just writing this, I can almost smell the wonderful aroma wafting up to our room from the little bakery across the alley. There is also a little cafe across from the entrance where you can buy coffee and a pastry, cheaply, for breakfast. Basic but good.

Kay - when you left did you also return to the airport or go to the train station? I was wondering how much shuttle or taxi would be from hotel to train station when we leave Rome?

I can hardly wait to smell the aromas of the City myself!!

Thanks!

Depending on the time of day, I would estimate maximum 5-7 euro from Campo dei Fiori to Termini.
Maybe less, depending on trafic and surcharges after a certain time of day. (not sure when this kicks in..)
We used Rome Shuttle Limo from the hotel back to the airport; the fee is 35 Euro per car.

Recently, the city of Rome fixed the taxi fare between FCO and central Rome at 40 Euros (there may be a late night surcharge, though). Just be sure to get a registered Rome taxi and confirm before you get in that you will pay the fixed 40 E fare.
Of course, if you can have a confirmed limo for less than 40, go for it.

I booked through Rome Shuttle Limousines for an upcoming trip. They respond quickly to my emails and questions. We are also using them to return to the aiport at 6AM on a Sunday for 40 (trip from airport is 35).

To Queener -

Going back, the hotel rang a cab and we went to the train station as we were catching a train to Naples. It cost 10 euro for the cab but that was a few years ago. From hotel to Termini took about 10 mins from memory.

I'm pretty sure the Hotel shuttle will only do airport/hotel runs. There is also a bus you can catch, quite nearby, to the train station but with luggage, I think a taxi would be much easier.

Have a great time.
