P.S. The owner gave me directions from Rome Termini station to her apartment using the metro and then walking a shirt distance however I was wondering if it would be worth taking a taxi since we have luggage. I know that it probably would be cheaper to take the metro but it would mean we would need to carry suitcases up/down stairs and onto to the metro.
Do you know how long it takes to get from Rome Termini to Centro Storico by metro, and app. how long it would with taxi + the cost of the taxi ride. I'm estimating 8-9 euros?

isabella - for 3 of you, definitely take a taxi from termini to your apartment. it'll probably be no more than €10 but make sure that you get an official cab and don't fall for the "there's a cab over here for you" scam. how long it'll take will depend on the traffic and that will of course affect the price.
BTW, there is no France forum, only Europe, Asia etc.
so you're already there!
but by all means start another thread for the France part of your trip.

stevewith, I lied. I have stayed other places than the Centro Storico in Rome, including on the outskirts when visiting my husband's relatives who live there. But most people asking questions here are new to the city and want to see the usual sights. Your point of view is different from that of most posters.
But, you may not have noticed, I prefaced my suggestions with "in general." That means for most people most of the time. I thought the OP was making a decision, the consequences of which she was not fully aware. No, of course, not all the sights of Rome are within the Centro Storico. But there are more of the most famous sights in that area -- to state the obvious.

Re wi-fi - you might get lucky and find an open wi-fi signal in the apartment or if you have an unlocked iPhone you could buy a local SIM card with data (25E for voice and 500 mg/week at a TIM store) and use your iPhone as a hot spot or tether your computer to it. That's all easier than it sounds, if it's new to you.
