This is pretty specific, but hopefully someone can help... I was wondering if anyone knew the approximate length of time the trip from nearby Campo dei Fiori to Termini on the #40 Bus would take... I am trying to plan out the only two early mornings we have ( :/ ) I was successful using the ATAC Route Planner(!!) although I didnt see that it had a estimated trip length, and I was unable to track down the actual timetables on the atac site... I understand that you always risk traffic delays, strikes and other mayhem, but I'd appreciate any guidelines!! Thanks!

There are no actual bus line timetables, but there is a chart that shows when a bus will depart or arrive at each end of the line.

In the <i>"trova linea"</i> box type "40" and it will give a listing of times the #40 is at each of the ends of that line.

For example, it shows the 1st #40 bus of the day departing Castel S. Angelo at 06:00 and arriving Termini at 06:30 but doesn't list the intermediate stops.

The #40 has 219 Total daily departures (<i>"Totale partenze"</i> on the ATAC website) and the #40 appears to come by every 5 minutes or less.

I've taken the #40 from Termini to Largo Argentina, it was about 20 minutes (on a Sunday mid-morning).

I'd plan on a 30 minute ride to allow for any unusual contingencies.

To be more clear, after typing "40" in the "trova linea" box, you then have to click on

40 p.za pia/castel s. angelo temporanea

AND

40 termini temporanea

and print both tables out...

20-30 mins depending on traffic.

if you are after catching a train at termini, you have to allow for the gaps between buses of course, and then to get from the bus stop to the platform via the ticket machines.

so a minimum of 45 mins before your train is due to leave, and personally I'd give myself an hour - you can always grab a coffee and a cornetto at the station while you are waiting.

bardo - Earlier today I had gotten to where you suggested on the atac site and tried to click "temporanea" (it was the only thing that looked like a link - highlighted in blue) and my browser would think about loading something, and then stop, but nothing on the page would change *sigh*... after re-reading your response - I now see I was supposed to click on both! haha missed that memo

anyways, you and annhig helped a bunch!! I was thinking an hour before the train departure time, and so it shall seem!

If you aren't familiar with using the buses in Rome, make sure you are on the correct side of the street to catch it.
