RomanHomes (Mauro Abate)?

We are considering renting the Bramante Chapel offering of RomanHomes -- having "come up dry" with our old favourite, sleepinitaly.com.

I've searched here and on slowtrav.com, and find several threads that complain of self-promotion and prickliness of the agency owner.

My question is: Has anyone stayed in RomanHomes' apartments and has anyone views of the properties themselves and the service offered?

I can manage prickliness but don't want a disappointing experience -- noisy or dirty apartment; undependable owner; or other serious failings.

Anyone had a bad experience with an actual rental???

Do a search for Abate. Unfortunately the original thread of many years ago seems to be gone...

Hello tedgale, I remember that name and all the negative experiences Fodorites had. Personally I would stay away from that one.

I rented from RomanHomes about 6 years ago. The apartment was in the Monti district and was adequate. I'd choose that area again but not that particular apartment mostly because of the kitchen which was teeny-tiny (we had to move one of the dining chairs to open the refrigerator.) However I had no problems with the rental agency or its owner.

Thanks to those who replied. Their warnings were justified.

After one unmerited "flame" e-mail from Dr. Abate, we have decided to book elsewhere.
