I recommend that everyone should keep a daily journal. I can read what I did everyday while on the trip and not forget it. I can relive my trip that way. I would most certainly forget much of the details if I did not. I just bring a small notebook and jot down events or write in detail, depending on how much time I have or how tired I am. Usually I would go back to the apartment at some point and have a glass of wine and write a bit while everything was still fresh. I have journals from all of my trips of the past 20 years. They are precious.
I also have a small notebook with ideas and names and addresses of places. I take that with me and leave most of the guide books at home. I also use it to jot down info while I am out and about.

Thanks for the additional apartment info. That looks like a good location to me. I have stayed in Trastevere before, but more in the thick of things. Nowadays I like to avoid the thick of things.

The location was very good. You could get right "into the thick of it", but were right on the edge of it. You must take into consideration the police barracks outside the window. The noise was that of traffic. We didn't mind it; others who reviewed the apartment complained about it. I think it made it interesting.

I'm looking foward to a 2nd trip to Rome. I was disappointed after my first trip. But it was hot and full of long lines at the "must sees"
Can't wait to go back! We plan on renting an apartment this time and being able to roam the neighborhoods.
Rome is overwhelming. I've said in other posts, my favorite night there was without my map, guide book and camera.
