The market is enormous, not especially exciting but interesting if you like markets.
The National Library, over the river, is fascinating for a couple of reasons. So few books are written in Latvian that the collection, after the Russians left, was started by every Latvian giving a book. Latvia also came late to the printing press and almost quickly realised the down side of the book was that it could contain lies (think internet in the 1700s). So the main display on the ground floor is how to indoctrinate people in "the truth". Eye opening to certain countries at the moment.
The buildings are fascinating within the ring road and the parks are lovely, bike riding is easy as is rental.
