Rhine River Trip

We are taking a river trip and ae concerned with the dress code in the countries we will have a shore visit such as Germany, Austria. Are shorts for men and women acceptable in the cities?

Depends on how good their legs look.

Hi Terri:

Depends:
1. What time of the year? Winter is cold.
2. Are you young and athletic looking? If so, shorts are OK in most places in warm weather. Remember, you will be visiting a lot of churches.
3. If you are "mature" and out of shape, go with casual clothes (Docker's, slacks, skirts, etc.)
4. We have taken several river cruises and found people tend to dress a little for dinner (no ties except for Capt's dinner).

Have a good trip, Chet

In Germany the dress code seems to be casually scruffy, in Austria casually smart. Does this make sense?

Thanks for the reply. Treveling in late June. We are both "mature" so I guess we better stick to shorts on board.
