Rhine River Lights Fireworks
Ran across the link for Rhine River Lights Fireworks

Anyone been to one? Where is the firework? Kolblenz? Is it necessary to buy a ticket on a boat to see this properly, or can we just drive/walk to somewhere along the river to enjoy the fireworks, too?

We had been in a similar trip some years ago. It was a round boat trip from / to Cologne. With dinner, live music and dance. You receive your seat at a table for dinner, then you can stay where you want, on this deck or to a superior one (for dance and to see the firework. Firework are on the shore, in each town, so you see a lot of them while the boat approaching to each the town.

Apparently there are several different firework cruise. The Rhine in Flames is the biggest one, serveral fireworks enroute, as described above. The one that fits my schedule is Rhine River Lights which only have one fireworks enroute.

In the title, it says "firework between Lorelei Rock and water castle Pfalz in the Rhine River". In the programs description, it says "From 10:15 p.m. firework display Rhine river lights™ between Lorelei Rock and Rhinegau."
However, I can't find Lorelei Rock, Castle Pflaz, nor Rhinegau, on google map?!
I don't think my kids will be into hours of dancing/sitting around on a boat. So I'm hoping if I know where the fireworks would be, I can park on shore and watch it there.

"Firework" doesn't mean there's only "one" - it's just a weak translation. The Fireworks themselves go off in different locations between the Lorelei (just south of St. Goar) and the Pfalz (short for Pfalzgrafenstein) Castle (in the river at Kaub) in linear order, and the boats follow them from show to show. You can find those place names on your map. I don't know specifically which places in between will enjoy fireworks, but since Oberwesel is the only west bank town in between the Lorelei and the Pfalz, it would be a very good bet. You could set up in Kaub on the other side too.
There is a "Rotweinfest" or red wine fest in Bacharach on that date that takes place at the river's edge. I suspect you would see fireworks there as well, even though it's well south of Kaub, as these fireworks and festivals tend to go together, but I can't be sure.

Several years ago we stayed in the town of Oberwesel and sat on the banks of the Rhine to watch the Rhine in Flames across the river. It was very enjpyable and afterwards we just walked back to our hotel. We had friends that did one of the river cruises, not sure if it was a dinner one or not, and they felt it was too long and drawn out. Below is another link showing the dates as it continues in different towns along the river.

Personally I would enjoy finding a place to sit and enjoy the evening rather than do a cruise, the river is full of sightseeing boats and the vantage point is much better from the river bank.

Follow up to my own post in case this is helpful to others.
It turns out for our particular night, Sat 8/4, the fireworks were shot off Kaub. We drove there and watched it from the shore with a handful of tourists and locals. Even though it was a "smaller" fireworks, not like the mega Rhine-in-Flames, it was still a good 20+ mins of beautiful fireworks over the Rhine with a castle as a silhouette. Magical! It's a must-do if you are lucky enough to be visiting the Rhine on a night that offers fireworks.
Now, I don't think the fireworks is always shot off Kaub. It depends on the boat stops and time. What we did is 40-45 mins before the scheduled fireworks time (listed on the route), we drove along the Rhine looking for the cruise boats. Very easy to find: party boats with festive lights, loud dancing music, rowdy folks, going at snail pace. Eventually they docked and soon after that, a police boat arrived to check out the area and then a flat barge with fireworks on board arrived. There was a nice local gentleman from Oberwesel who confirmed that we were in the right spot for the fireworks. He came down from Oberwesel himself.
It worked out perfect for us since our kids were not interested in being on a dancing cruise boat for hours (most don't disembark until after midnight). Watching from shore was quick and easy.
