Reykjavik one day

I have only 24 hours to spend in Reykjavik
Don't drive, anyone know of a tour for the day?
Is there a hotel that i could spend the one night and still be able to get around.

The Golden Circle is the classic way to spend 24 hours in Iceland. Just contact any tour company in Reykjavik, they'll offer the tour.

I would also recommend the swimming. Either at the Blue Lagoon or one of the city's swimming pools. The city center is small enough to cover in 2 hours of walking. Have fish or lamb for dinner.

we were in Iceland in May and one of our days was the Golden Circle tour mentioned, - they suggested we bring our gear for the Blue Lagoon on the bus in case the tour ran late - it didn't, and we had about 45 minutes to change at our hotel and grab the bus to the Blue Lagoon - if you do this, I would suggest if you want to eat at the Blue Lagoon to make a reservation ahead of time otherwise you may end up in the cafeteria part vs. the restaurant - but you may want to spend more time in the water and eat when you get back in town.

It was a good day and after the Blue Lagoon we were sooo relaxed we ended up in bed so early I can't tell you and we slept like logs !!! marvelous.

I usually hate tours, but we truly enjoyed this day.
here is a link to my trip report if you want details on the tour, where it went, and the experience at the blue lagoon (and some suggestions as to waht to bring) !! Have fun whatever you decide.

p.s. and we loved our hotel, and it offered a shuttle every 15 minutes to downtown, but was quieter being outside of town. A cab was also easily accessible and not too expensive. details on the above mentioned trip report.

Hi LPK,

There are lots of tours to take in Reykjavik. Reykjavik Excursions is a reputable outfit, I didn't do a tour, so I can't offer contact info.

The Golden Circle tour would be perfect too, it will give you a taste of Iceland that will leave you wanting to return.

We stayed at the Foss Baron hotel, close enough to walk to Laugavegur where there is shopping and restaurants, but far enough away that you can get some sleep during the runtur - unless of course you plan on joining the runtur, then you are in walking distance to a number of bars and clubs. You can walk to Austurstraeti, but it will take some time, and there are places to stop along the way. The hotel isn't in a wonderful building or very glamorous, but it was quiet, safe, and comfortable.

I also recommend the Laugavegur pool and the attached Laugar Spa over the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon was under heavy construction back in April (it could be done, if so no worries) which really distracted from my enjoyment of it. The local pools are a great way to get a wonderful Icelandic experience.

Enjoy your trip, Reykjavik is a great city!

We spent 24 hours on a 1 night stopover from Paris to Boston. We were picked up at the airport and taken to the Blue Lagoon. What a great experience. It was early April and it was spitting snow. Invigorating!!!! We stayed at the Hotel Fron and walked all over Reykjavik. We would love to do it again.

Oh Amor you are right, I forgot about the construction - we were there in May and they were about 1/2 way through renovating the womens locker room/showers, but it didn't affect us anywhere else, maybe they had fnished part of it by then- I would hope the locker rooms are also complete by now, ...if you go to Blue Lagoon Lpk let us know !

The "Golden Circle" really is a classic, and the Blue Lagoon is lovely and relaxing. Another tour "combo" takes in whale-watching, horseback riding, a Viking feast (including the famous fermented shark) and the Blue Lagoon; it's a fun way to spend a day, and gives you a taste of the activities.

Iceland is gorgeous; enjoy!

Thanks for all your tips!
We landed at 6am jumped on the tour of the golden circle till 5 pm
Then grabbed the tour to the Blue Lagoon HEAVEN what a great way to beat jet lag
One negative, DON"T WAIT to eat
We got to our hotel at about 10 ish and all the restaurants were closed
Would go back to Iceland in a minute
what a beautiful place
There is still construction at the Blue Lagoon but it does not interfere.

I agree about not waiting to eat. We looked for something quick and cheap (Iceland standards) and it was hard to find anything after 9:00 pm. The next morning everything seemed to open up a bit later also. We actuallly ended up eating dinner at a place that served Thai and Icelandic food and on weekends had Thai Karaoke nights.
