I've been to ireland several times and have seen the major tourist attractions, driven quite a bit. We will be in Dublin for a wedding at the end of the month and have about 4 days to go somewhere else. I've done a lot of Cork, Galway, been to Wicklow. Any good suggestions for the East coast? Town we could have as a base and either stay there or do day trips from? I loved Doolin, would love another small town like this with great music, near the coast...

Have you been to Northern Ireland? There's lots to see and do in Belfast and the Antrim Coast is so scenic. It's very different (and IMHO, much better) than anything you'll find in Doolin.

Kilkenny-Not on the coast ,but a great small city with wonderful food,music,and historical sights.We just spent 3 nights and can't wait to return.

I enjoyed Kilkenny a lot. A medieval city with a castle, two cathedrals, and lots of little cobblestone alleyways with trad music pubs. There is also a lot nearby - Cashel, Jerpoint, Inistioghe - to explore.

If you want closer to Dublin, Dun Loaghaire is a lovely seaside town.

Or you could, as longhorn suggested, take a couple days up into Northern Ireland, and explore the Glens of Antrim and the Antrim coast - simply stunning! Belfast is only 2 hours drive from Dublin, or you could train up there and rent a car from there. Giant's Causeway, Glenariff Forest, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, Dunluce Castle, Bushmill's Distillery, and lots of fantastic coast. I enjoyed staying in Cushendall - Johnny Joe's has good music of a night. We stayed in the Riverside B&B, a class place.

Hop on the train and take a day trip to Belfast. They have the new Titanic exhibit and it has a replica of the dining room. We love Howth north of Dublin and Greystone south of Dublin.
