Restaurants in Rome

I will be in Rome from Nov 25-Nov 28th. Would love suggestions on authentic Roman restaurants, nothing touristy. Suggestions from casual to upscale.

Thank you.

Elaine,

I am not sure why you sent me this thread...it seems to only focus on US destinations.

thanks

Pietro Valentini's, near the Pantheon. Reasonable price, great food--owner is a colorful impressario. I highly recommend it.

Nino, as Richard describes above, v. good.

Pierluigi, Piazza dei Ricci, $$, very good

Sabatini in Trastevere, excellent

La Bucca di Ripetta, 13 via di Ripetta, $$, outstanding, and not at all touristy

Buon Viaggio & Buon Appetito,

Bookchick

I've had Bucca di Ripetta on my list for years, but somehow have never made it. Is it still as good and highly thought of as it was, say when I first heard about it, 5 years or so ago?

Tuscan, it has changed hands, and is now closed, I believe on Tuesdays. They've re-done some minor parts of the decor, and changed a few items on the menu, but on my last trip in June, I found it to be as great as it was when I discovered it for the first time in January of '02.

bookchick, have you been to Sabatini lately? I was there a year or so ago and to my surprise the food was horrible. I hope they have redeemed themselves because I used to love that place for the food and the great location.

SeaUrchin, my sole sojourn to Sabatini was in early October of 2004. The owner's son-in-law (a dead ringer for Giancarlo Giannini, IMO) waited on us hand and foot, and we had one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. How terribly disappointing if they've taken a downhill slide since!

I am pretty sure I was there before you were so hopefully they are back on track. We were so disappointed with the food (like more than a day old) and the service (he practically tossed the plates at us and walked away for an hour or so).

It had been one of my favorite restaurants since the 80's. I'll try it again.
