Restaurant suggestion in or near Royal Albert Hall

We will be in London in just a few short weeks and will be attending a Sunday afternoon Prom. Any suggestions for a post-concert dinner? Nothing over-the-top expensive..but open to all types of food. Also any thoughts on restaurants in RAH? Many thanks.

Off the top of my head, I think you'll probably have to go back down Exhibition Road to South Kensington, where there are lots (but I'm the last person to ask for recommendations).

A mile away or so on the Old Brompton Road is Racine which is almost opposite the V&A, food is French and very good. Bibendum which is also nearby and in a lovely building has a Sunday night prix fixe menu.

I'd actually get out of Dodge. So many folks will be streaming out of the Albert Hall at the same time, mostly starving, anything nearby will be crammed. I'd walk up to Knightsbridge or down to S Kens tube stations, and go anywhere else in London that you'd like.

There's no satisfactory eating facilities in the RAH.

Restaurants within half a mile or so are uniformly mediocre. There's a clutch of niceish places round South Ken tube, and a sprinkling along Ken High St - though most of us have our own idiosyncratic taste. I always use an anonymous Chinese noodle shop at the extreme southerly point of Exhibition Road,on the east side of the street, but my advice to tourists is just to mosey round, relying on your own nose, or buy Time Out London Eating and Drinking 2011.

In a city with tens of thousands of places to eat, I simply can't see the point of listening to "I liked x" recommendations from a stranger on the web whose criteria and reliability you've got no way of determining

I too would recommend Racine near the V&A or cafe Montepeliano. Or grab a bus at South Ken tube and go to Venosi on Sloane Avenue. I think it is the 360 . Orsini is not at all fancy but has excellent food. It too is across from the V&A.

I used to live down the road from RAH and know the area well. I completely agree w/ Flanneur regarding restaurants. The area around South Ken station is pretty shite, but walk 15 minutes and you will find some gems

Bumpkin in South Kensington is great - good English comfort food. They take reservations online:

The Kensington Creperie is a local institution in South Ken. Any type of crepe you can think of, both savoury and sweet. Just near the station:

The Admiral Codrington serves very good, upscale pub food:

Excellent Indian food at Noor Jahan off of Old Brompton Road:

I realise it's an American chain, but Le Pain Quotidien opened somewhat recently near the station and it's good food, good value and a nice atmosphere:

I also concur w/ the above recommendation for Racine - it's not cheap, but very elegant and the food is delicious. It's a step above in terms of formality and cuisine than what I"ve mentioned above

I like Daquise at 20 Thurloe Street near South Ken tube station. The Hungarian old men and the cat are gone but it's still a nice old-fashioned place.

There's a nice chain called Cote with a location near RAH. Here's the website:

Nice menu, decent food (although I'm not really a foodie) at good prices and good location.

We went there before our concert and it was an easy walk.

I'd take the 7 min. walk to Zaika. Top-quality modern Indian at Kensington High St. and a lot closer than restaurants around South Ken station.

Oh. Here's your answer. Maggie Jones. We walked there on a very cold Christmas Eve after a Christmas Concert at Royal Albert and it's one of my favorite places in London. Been there many times.

Avoid Carluccio's like the plague, as tempting as they look from the outside
