Restaurant Recommendations, Ortigia, Ragusa, Noto, Modica

Hi Fodorites,

Will bein Sicily in May and wondering if you have any favorites for lunch or dinner or just for glass of wine. Ortigia, Ragusa, Noto and Modica and Scilla (not sure how to spell that one!). Granita is near and dear to my heart also after a trip to the Aeolian Islands. thank you.

Some spots I recommend from our 2018 trip

Ortigia:

Dinner- Retroscena, Osteria Del Vecchio Ponte (just across the bridge in Syracuse)

Lunch- Cala Piada

Ragusa- lunch- OFF Odierna Finestra Ferreri

Modica

Dinner- Fichera 7117 – Dabbanna, I Lupini, Fuoco Dei Mori

Lunch- Trattoria da Fabio (just don’t get the house wine- really bad)

Scilla- get a testa di turco at Dolceria Giannone (consider splitting one because they are huge), light lunch, snack or wine at 'O Spicu

Ortigia- we stayed a week and our favorite restaurants were Locanda del Collegio, great seafood and pizzas and Regina Lucia, more upscale but with a friendly atmosphere, fabulous food and service, at corner of Puazza Duomo, downstairs in wine cellar. Skip a restaurant with Don in it’s name, horrible experience in every way..
Noto- Do not miss dining at Manna!

Ortigia - we really enjoyed the Local Maniace. It is a small, unassuming restaurant but it was very good.

Back in 2010, on our way from Ortigia to Modica, we made a pilgrimage stop in Noto at Caffè Sicilia, one of the iconic caffès in town, for our introduction to the combo of granita and brioche. Loved it.

We were so disappointed that Cafe Sicilia was closed when we visited Noto.

In Catania we enjoyed dinner at Il Gambero Pazzo and the granita at Pasticceria Savia and Comis Ice Cafè. We really loved Catania. So many people seem to skip it on their Sicily trips (or simply use it to get in and out of Sicily).
