Essential to book

I'm afraid near London Eye is a restaurant chain wasteland

We found two restaurants in London which were outstanding Indian food.
Quilon

Southwest Indian.
Very good seafood, a bit pricey, but it has a no tipping policy.
Cool contemporary vibe. Good for a special meal.
Not far from Buckingham Palace

This one is tiny, tucked away in a neighborhood, somewhere between Hyde Park and Paddington Station, as I recall.
Excellent prawns, small, open later than a lot of places nearby.
May require a minimum order per person of about 18 pounds.

In York there is a Carvery that I can recommend. Aside from the usual meats it has a very nice veggie buffet with a good selection of root vegetable dishes. One can order just these without meats. They also have a nice Yorkshire pudding. York also has Betty's which has an excellent afternoon tea.
