Rome: Buy ATAC 3-day pass at FCO? Using a contactless credit card.
Three questions about public transport in Rome:
Can I buy a 3-day pass at FCO?
Alternatively, can I use my contactless Mastercard on transit? (The ATAC website appears to say so.)
In London (as I recall), the contactless system stops accruing charges in a particular day when you reach the cost of a day-pass (or a week-pass). In other words, it automatically gives you the cheapest cost of your travel. Does the Rome contactless system do that, too?
Thanks.

The airport isn't in Rome and the ATAC website doesn't mention any shops selling anything.
You should be able to use contactless but that's more a question about your card. I would not expect it to calculate your best options.
How much transit are you expecting to use? Aren't you staying in the centre?

We've been to Rome several times. I couldn't remember whether ATAC had a ticket office in FCO...was hoping someone would know.

I would not expect it to calculate your best options.Too bad...London's TFL system is great.
How much transit are you expecting to use?Not sure...we are in a great location for walking. The economic cutoff is 4 trips per day, but if we can't use the convenience of tap-and-go, paying an extra couple of bucks for the convenience of a single card purchase is under consideration. We're going to be there for two three-night periods (with three nights/four days in Palermo in-between via sleeper train).
Aren't you staying in the centre? We are -- ghetto area. We are well-aware of the walkability from that location...have stayed there on three previous trips...just investigating all our transport options.

The ATAC website doesn't actually show sale points beyond the metro stations. You could try the WH Smiths book store. They sell Cotral bus tickets IIRC.
But between contact less and people buying tickets online I get the impress both companies are cutting back on shops

ATAC tickets are usually sold at tobacco shops, and newsstands. Apparently all means of transportation now accept "Tap 'n Go", but this is new since I was last in Rome, so I can't vouch for it.
I have never managed to use four trips in one day in Rome, so it doesn't make sense for me to buy a 24-hour ticket. As you know, Rome is very walkable. Also, each ticket is good for 100 minutes, so I have sometimes been able to use a single ticket for a round trip. If you're using Tap 'n Go, you need to tap again before your 100 minutes expire.
