Restaurant in Amsterdam

I have a 7 hour lay over in Amsterdam on my way to Italy. My lay over is right in the middle of the day, so I plan to go see a few things in the city. I was looking for a good restaurant to go to for lunch - any suggestions?

Indonesian!
There are a number of good ones. Check Fodor's restaurant site. We went to the Kantjil en de Tiger at Leidseplein, but there are several others, such as Sama Sembo or De Orient near the museums, Speciaal in the Jordaan neighborhood, Sarang Mas in the city center.

Aaron,
If you are looking for a "somewhat" typical Dutch experience you could give the pancake house near the Anne Frank Huis a try. It is near the Westerkerk on the Prinsengracht (crossing the Rozengracht).

In addition to the Indonesian food, I have found the Argentine steak houses to be quite good. There are a few on the Damrak just in front of the station.

Eets makkelijk.

The 1st class restaurant on platform 2 of Central Station is quite good, and a nice and special environment also.
Craig: it is "Eet smakelijk". ("makkelijk" means "easy")

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Indrapura on Rembrantplein. The service was attentive and they explained the food very well. They have a web site.

Indrapura is a tourist trap. The location is nice, and the food is OK, but the prices are outrageous.

Re: Indrapura I guess everyone is on a different budget. We did not find it expensive. We enjoyed the atmosphere also.

Definitely try an Indonesian rice table. We ate at Kantjil en de Tiger and Flamboyant next door to the Carre Theatre - enjoyed and would recommend both places. There are also Chinese rice tables, but I prefer the Indonesian We always end up at Oriental City which, I think, is in the Red Light District. We've also eaten at the Pancake Bakery and enjoyed it. Depending where you're from (we're from the Southern U.S.), you might consider a pancake here more of a crepe. At any rate, they were good! Enjoy your lunch. Take a canal cruise if you have time.
