Renting an Apt directly from owner - your experience? Horror stories?

Bank rates for transfers vary greatly--our bank charges $45 to do a direct transfer to an account outside the US. We tend to get close to commerical rates on the dollar to euro exchange but always with $45 on top. Might be worth it to use PayPal if you can, it has improved.
