Rental cars in Malpensa

I need to arrange a rental car from Malpensa. Can anyone help me with specifics for getting a car there--are the rental cars near baggage claim, do you need to take a shuttle bus, are some rental companies more convenient than other, etc.?? I am getting a quote from Autoeurope,(I have read most of the postings) and will probably also try Hertz since my husband is HertzGold(does that help in Europe?). I also have National Emerald Aisle, not sure if that helps at all in Europe.
Any guidance will be appreciated
Thanks!
Last time in Malpensa was 6 years ago, the rental cars were within walking distance of the terminal, no shuttles. We rented thru Autoeurope, we always check everyone but they seem to be consistent with the best rate. When checking, make sure all insurance is included, theft insurance is mandatory in Italy. ,

The rental offices were in the terminal across the walkway and downstairs from where we arrived on American Airlines from Chicago to Malpensa. I have used both AutoEurope and Hertz. I got a better rate on Hertz for our last trip in July to France. Cannot remember who I used to Italy last October. Just check them all out and book the best one. Definitely get all the insurance for Italy. Theft is rampant if you do not watch out. Rates are also higher in Italy than other countries so don't try to compare rates country by country. One strategy that I have read about on Fodors is to rent a car in France or Germany, close to border, and drive it into Italy. You will save money, but it adds a hassle factor. Good luck.

It's been a few years, but I recall picking up my bags and walking out of the area and the car rental desks were right there in the same building. The cars were located a short walk away, around the corner. Ask for directions at the auto rental desk. I rented Hertz. I am also HertzGold, but it didn't make any difference over there. I would suggest you familarize yourself with the traffic signs and the words for left, right, straight ahead, etc. A good map helps also.
