Rental car insurance covering other car

Rental car insurance covering other car
We will be driving only in France in October. My Master Card tells me we have coverage up to $50,000 on the car we are renting. They also said DO NOT TAKE THE CDW or that would void their having to pay. My question is who pays for the other car in an accident? It's clear from my USA auto insurance that they do not cover overseas travel.

Have you talked to MasterCard, specifically about liability?
You need to know if they offer primary coverage or secondary coverage. Do you pay and they reimburse you, or do you say, "Call MasterCard!"
Does it cover medical expenses if there are injuries, your own or others?
$50,000 can disappear pretty quickly. Who covers the balance?

By law, European rental company must offer unlimited public liability cover for personal injury and usually up to 30 million euro for property damage. So this comes automatically with the rental whether you take or decline CDW.

Your credit card coverage is to cover damage to the car you rent - and presumably your medical insurance or trip insurance would cover injuries you suffer.
Just check if your insurance covers glass and tires (most don't) and there is usually a $500 or so deductible.

The OP's question is re liability insurance covering other vehicles. As posted above -- this is a non-issue. All rentals include mandatory liability insurance.

The European rentals automatically include third party liability.
This is something different between the U.S. and European rentals.
If you rent a car in the U.S., the rental requirements section would state something like this:
<i>... provides no liability protection under the terms of the Rental Agreement to the renter from claims of injury by others against you resulting from an accident. </i> but may have different secondary/primary MINIMUM state required liabilities included depending on the states.
In Europe, the your rental would say something like this:
<i>Your rental includes liability insurance for injuries or damages to persons or things outside the vehicle. </i>

Your CC is the primary insurer for rentals in Europe, but you own car insurance covers domestic rentals. You can buy Super CDW if you want to be sure you are completely covered, but it will normally double the cost of the rental.
To save on headaches, if you have Amex, you can buy their total insurance for $24.95, Or if you have the Amex Platinum Card, you are automatically covered when the car to rent the car. There are a few other VISA cards that offer similar coverage
