Rental Car Insurance

I'm looking for info on rental car insurance in Italy. I have heard that car theft is a big concern in Italy. Any info out there on how much and what type of insurance is best?

Hi, Shan!
Are you renting or leasing?

If you need a car for 17 days or more, I highly recommend leasing (AutoEurope or EuropebyCar can help). The leasing programs offer very comprehensive insurance, including theft of car, etc.

If less than 17 days, then you are renting a car and I would suggest that you obtain CDW (collision damage waiver) as a minimum. Whichever car rental company you choose ought to give you a full list of all available insurance. AutoEurope can help in that respect too; they have a website that you can access for more information.

I may be wrong, but I think jason means "AutoFrance" not "AutoEurope" for the 17 day lease programs. AutoFrance is the division of Peugeot that leases you a brand new car for 17 days or more with total insurance coverage at a total rate better than I've ever been able to find through AutoEurope, which I DO always use for shorter periods.

Patrick, Autoeurope does handle the Peugeot sell/repurchase deals for 17 days or more. Check out their web site.

OK, I stand corrected. I looked, but don't see any advantage in booking the lease through AutoEurope over AutoFrance though.

My daughter is in the Air Force and is going to Italy for two years. She wants to take her car, who is the best for car insurance there? Any idea of cost would be helpful, thank you.
